December 2018
President's Message

Hello all, I hope that you are having a wonderful Holiday Season. Well, this note closes the book on 2018 and I do not know about you, but for me and mine it has been a tough year. Looks like we will make it through and be stronger for it! Sheryl and I are slowly getting resettled in our home as we finish a few final details and the last few projects. By spring, we should have it all finished up. For the first time in nearly thirty years in this house, I will not have any major projects or issues hanging over my head. What a good feeling that will be… Call it a Harvey blessing or silver lining.

December also brought around our annual Christmas party. For those that were unable to attend, let me fill you in. The party, held at West Houston Airport (Thank You Woody), was in our usual potluck fashion for that location with GHAFI providing the ham, which Harry was kind enough to arrange. Good eats! The party was well attended with several faces that we haven’t seen in a while. It was good to see those folks and I appreciate them taking the time and coming to join us from as far away as the Woodlands, Conroe, Beaumont, and even Waco (talk about “Greater Houston”…)! GHAFI also provided some door prizes just for good measure. Seems all had a good time.

TEASER ALERT: As Carol and I were compiling the supplies needed for the Christmas party, we took a few minutes to go through the GHAFI locker and take a quick inventory of the contents after pulling out the needed Christmas party supplies. Yes, GHAFI has a locker. It is stored gratis in a hangar office on West Houston Airport (Thank you again Woody…). We came across a box of old publications. Our first thought was to trash it! Then we decided that it may be a good idea to have Robbie go through it just to see if there was anything of interest that might be worthy of further scrutiny since he is working on an archiving project for the organization (Robbie has more or less taken on an ad hoc role as historian to boot…). All I will say at this point is HOLY SMOKE! He hit upon some real pay dirt. He has now been further tasked with putting together a presentation for the Board meeting in February. I believe that this could put our organization on a totally new trajectory, and the timing could not be better. Now that I have gotten your attention, and if you want to know more, you need to come to the February BoD meeting for the rest of the story. It is open to all members and guests. As always, FLY SAFE! Social media. Expect to see some changes to our website in the near future. Then there is the best-kept secret in GHAFI, our Facebook page. Yes, we have a Facebook page. Please come and join us. Be part of the conversation or start one up. Director Robbie Boettcher is our “moderator”. Spread the word.
